Question 12:- Jaspal Singh repays his total loan Rs 1,18,000 by paying every month starting with the Ist instalment of Rs 1000, If he increases the instalment by Rs 100 every month, what amount will be paid by him in the 30th instalment ? What amount of loan will he still have to pay after the 30th instalment ?      [CBSE   2012]

Solution:- Jaspal Singh repays his total loan = Rs 1,18,000

Ist instalment = Rs 1000

IInd instalment = Rs 1100

IIIrd instalment = Rs 1200

Then, the amount forms an A. P. with a constant increasing amount Rs 100. Thus, the series is :

1000, 1100, 1200, 1300  .   .   .

Now the 30th instalment

a_{30} = a + (30 - 1)d

a_{30}= 1000 + 29\times 100

a_{30} = 3900

Now the 30th instalment = Rs 3900

Amount paid by Jaspal Singh in 30 instalment

S_{30} = \dfrac{30}{2}[2a + (n - 1)d]

S_{30} = 15[2(1000) + 29(100)]

S_{30} = 15[2000 + 2900]

S_{30} = 15[4900]

S_{30} = 73500

He paid in 30 instalment = Rs 73,500

Remaining amount of loan = 1,18,000 – 73,500

 = Rs 44,500
