Yasmeen saves ₹ 32 during the first month ₹ 36

Question 8:

Yasmeen saves ₹ 32 during the first month ₹ 36 in the second month and ₹ 40 in the third month. If she continues to save in this manner, in how many months will she save ₹ 2000?

Answer :

Since, a_1 = 32,a_2 = 36, a_3 = 40, S_n = 2000

Hence, A.P.  32, 36, 40 .   .  .

a = 32, d = 36 – 32 = 4

S_n = \frac{n}{2}[2a + (n - 1)d]

2000 = \frac{n}{2}[2\times 32 + (n - 1)\times 4]

\Rightarrow 2000 = n(32 + 2n - 2)

⇒  2000 = n(2n + 30)

⇒ 2n² + 30 n – 2000 = 0

⇒  n² + 15 n – 1000 = 0

⇒  n² +40 n – 25 n – 1000 = 0

⇒  n(n + 40) – 25(n + 40) = 0

⇒  (n + 40)(n – 25) = 0

n = 25,  – 40

Hence, She save ₹ 2000 in 25  days
